There is much work to do on this ninth day of the ninth month, I do fear,
A great endeavour, a quest of great global importance, no time to spare
Your willing shoulders to turn the wheel of life and take the time to care,
As our summers turn rich soil to dust, we must do more than shed a tear
Help gather the violent rains that flood, in every butt, bucket and hollow,
Share the spoils with sprouting fruits and vegetables that feed the world
Restore the wetlands for all sentient beings, from vole to marsh marigold
Plant trees to replenish dwindling aquifers, return the mighty rivers’ flow,
Wise old monks will tell you ‘Green is for life’ up on the Tibetan Plateau.
