1849 you mention in your numerical post. A year famous for the Great Famine in Ireland as the potato crop fails again and that Irishman William Hamilton is arrested after shooting blank shots at Queen Victoria on Constitution Hill, London along with the publication of J. A. Froude's controversial novel of religious doubt The Nemesis of Faith. Paradoxically also year of the California Gold Rush and first exhibition of paintings by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in London, as well as Karl Marx’s move from Paris to London, where he was to spend the remainder of his life.
