The Quest Of King Meshre - III - Discourse With The Zed

It came to pass one day as the sun shone upon his king father's temple, that Meshre sat within the lowest chamber. Sat he, upon his knees without the circle within the triangle within the circle within the square within a six-pointed hexagram within a circle, and said the words that kings doth know.

And the intention of the boy was and yet was not to summon the All-Iz-Zed; for, an entity of light come rarely through summonings, but his prayer and plight didst work; so upon Meshre came the Zed and spake unto the young, yet-wisest man.

So said the Zed, that there is a foundation built beneath all, and that foundation: called rightly, the Hypostasis of The Above, Middle, and Below.

And at the lowest dwelt the Dragon, ultimate king and president that is all dark and grey and dim. Made he, of water, clay, and air.

Above the Great Dragon be the worms of the Earth, who feasteth upon all corporeal flesh. They are lords of material, princes, as it weret, of the Great Dragon.

And above the worms are the lords of seas: seas, and yet not aether: 'tis the eels, then: the serpents of waters, that be sons of the worms, and they feast upon all Earthly, corporeal beasts that creepeth within the physical fluid of below.

Then cometh the flying serpents of air--they, the sons of sons of sons of the Great Dragon. And they flying serpents rule all that is dim and grey-like, for they art in the middle of Above and Below. Herein, then, dwelleth the souls of men, high above their fleshy bodies below.

Come then the fire of Above which the Great Dragon canst touch nor gaze upon. Here be the throne and land of the All-Iz-Zed, creator of things Divine, creator of the anti-dragons. For, is the Zed, as they said, a being that can be seen: a being of seen light; yet, made not of neither Earth, sea, nor fire. He liveth peacefully and silently beside his secret wife whom wast created in his imagine from his right rib: she, being made from the blood of his holy spear.

So it is then, the makings and features of the Below, Middle, and Above with their lords and attributes. These, then, wast Meshre required to learn to possess the gateways of magic.
