Nine Chinese Whispers

Many people will see contributors to this site as fixated by the power of 9, but we are not alone, and while I have entitled this post ‘Nine Chinese Whispers’, 2 billion Terracotta Warriors cannot be wrong and could hardly be accused of whispering by sheer weight of population and their tendency to enunciate in the shouted form .

We see the power of 9 in patterns everywhere, by virtue of alphanumeric transposition via the English alphabet, Latin alphabet once upon a time. Nine, is the greatest single integer and in China is one of the luckiest numbers and forever associated with a seemingly inexhaustible, well until 1916 that is, supply line of Chinese emperors.

Skipping adroitly back to our alphanumeric transposition theme, we find that the very word emperor equates to the power of 9.

The Chinese Imperial Palace has 999 rooms

The Chinese dragon is closely connected to the number 9 normally and was originally regarded as an entirely benevolent beast and a creature of balance. The word dragon resolves into 5 (4-18-1-7-15-14 = 4+9+1+7+6+5 = 32 = 5) which is the constant number of balance within the supporting theory of this site. It also helps keep us sane, once sniffing fresh steaming piles of unsuspecting new evidence, underwriting the cause.

A powerful symbol that there dragon, it is described as always having nine attributes and normally includes has 117 (9x13) scales - 81 (9x9) Yang and 36 (9x4) Yin. Added to which, there only nine forms of the dragon and the dragon has nine offspring.

The "Nine Dragon Wall" is a screen wall with, not unsurprisingly even to my embattled grey matter, images of nine different dragons, and is found in imperial Chinese palaces (of the 999 rooms) and gardens. As nine was considered the number of the emperor, only the most senior figures in the Chinese social order were permitted to wear nine dragons on their robes - and then only with the robe completely covered with a surcoat.

The dominance of the number 9 is everywhere, but it is often found in the context of power. China was referred to for many years as Red China in the austere communist era before it embraced capitalism, heavy invested in the Yankee Dollar and its citizens started buying condos in Miami, was and is a major world power. Mao Tse-Tung’s Little Red Book was seen as the symbol of the nation's Cultural Revolution, as in no emperors, hawkers, royalist bill posters and capitalist charlatans allowed, from here on in. Yes, indeed how things change, the word 'junk' is now used to describe poor quality government bonds and has been replaced by a Bennetti ocean going super-yacht moored in Tianjin. The point of all this good natured rambling, is that the word red, also a dominant colour in Chinese visuals, itself transposes to 9 (18-5-4 = 9+5+4 = 18 = 9).
