When I found this site, when this site found me, I recognized the numerology and occultism as being relatable to Aliester Crowley, a man who I do believe was able to control magic(k). This became all the more obvious to me when I came across the "Evocation Spell", which claims to summon some otherworldly...what? demon? deity? I'm not going to do it for myself, I know that demons and magic are real, so I won't do it. I was wondering if anyone else had, and to what effect?
The only magic I've preformed was when I was 13. I had read a book by Alvin Schwarz called "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark"(some of you may know it). There was a story of a man who killed a neighborhood witch by driving one inch of a long nail into a doll he made of her to a tree. Each day, the man would drive in the nail a bit more, and each day the witch would ask the man for a small personal possession(in this case, sugar). But to complete the spell the man had to give her nothing or she could reverse the spell. Now, yes, this is crazy. I performed said ritual after my English teacher would make it a point to call me out in class in front of everyone as a bad example, and old man's failing ego's way of feeling superior(he was late 40's). I had made a "worry doll" out of popsicle sticks and yarn as per instructed for a Geography class, but I didn't just take it home to show mum. After my parents were asleep, I snuck outside, hood up, presumably so the spirits couldn't see my identity. I nailed the doll to a tree in the small patch of woods by my house, chanting the teacher's name so the spirits could hear. The next day, I was disappointed to see my teacher alive and well... until after the weekend. I had done what I had to do, and drove the nail in a bit more each night, and come Monday, news was all over the school. The teacher suffered a massive heart attack out of nowhere, and doctors said it looked bad. I was so damn thrilled. Each night saying 'thank you' as I kept driving in the nail. Then one day, as my dad was cutting the grass, he noticed the doll nailed to the tree and REMOVED IT. I said I didn't know what it was. Surprise, surprise. Not one month later the teacher had made a miracle recovery. That chapter closed. Two years later, my dad bought a bigger house and we moved. The family that moved into our house was a young couple in their early 30's with three daughters. Two weeks after they moved in, the married couple was out walking, and the wife fell over from a massive heart attack. FROM OUT OF NO WHERE... SO! If anyone has similar experiences, or has fully performed the aforementioned "Evocation Spell", please let me know as I'd like to open this discussion. Thanks, 973!

Thank you for your fascinating contribution and welcome to the Oracle Forum.

We do indeed accept that an interest in magic and the occult is part of the fabric of human belief, although the essence of this site is unbridled encouragement for our community to make use of all the forces that exist in this world for the good of human kind. We most certainly acknowledge that Alesteir Crowley was a highly influential individual, both in his own time and continuing to garner acolytes to the present day. In many respects he was completely misunderstood, often pilloried by a staid media emerging from the Victorian era and consequently a completely conditioned readership.

In reality, much of the thinking that he embraced energised his prolific indulgence in the creative arts. For not only was he perceived as an occultist and ceremonial magician, with the inevitably sinister connotations those pursuits appear to carry for the narrow minded, but was also highly regarded as an artist, poet, novelist and author of occult literature, as well as in a bizarre but not uncharacteristic tangent a respected mountaineer. His children’s names for example demonstrate a poetically exotic tendency, intertwined with alternative faith and influential figures: Lola Zaza Crowley, Aleister Atatürk Crowley, Nuit Ma Ahathoor Hecate Sappho Jezebel Lilith Crowley.

While Crowley rejected the fundamentalist Christian Plymouth Brethren faith of his parents to pursue an interest in what is often referred to as 'Western Esotericism', he also studied Hindu and Buddhist practices in India, but ultimately became quite erroneously tagged as a Satanist. Maybe all societies demand a populist bogeyman as a deterrent against the perils of absolute depraved decadence.

While he openly campaigned for the German war effort against Britain his birthplace, Crowley was later revealed as an artful mole who had infiltrated the pro-German movement on behalf of the British intelligence services, he was widely held to have operated as a spy for the good of his country of origin for most of his life. His induction and eventual rise to leadership of the German-based Ordo Templi Orientis would have been useful in this respect, originally modelled on a Masonic Templar organisation, it was reorganised by Crowley around the Law of Thelema as its central religious principle.

Indeed, he potentially began the tradition of Cambridge University as an incubator for espionage agents. Also positioned by many as a social critic, his beliefs and interests acted almost as a second passport offering him carte blanche to travel the world in search of knowledge, living in a number of European countries. Crowley almost came full circle when he jointly founded the Abbey of Thelema, a derivation of the Thelemite religion and a religious commune in Sicily which he was to foster and promote for several decades to come. He was also a great advocate of recreational drugs, not an uncommon pursuit amongst the creative community down the ages as well as a number of religions in search of expanded visionary consciousness.

Distilling the many facets of his life, he delivered much that was good, his doctrine perhaps deemed untrustworthy and subversive by less enlightened observers fearing that the old order would be undermined, when in reality he was doing exactly what 973-namuh-eht-973.com sets out to do by offering an alternative way of thinking.

Voodoo comes in different flavours and is most certainly an Afro-American religion. Ritual administrators in the form known as Louisiana Voodoo, frequently evoke protection from Jehovah and Jesus Christ intricately interwoven with darker shades of magic, spells and potions covering every situation from beguiling the attentions of desirable lovers to personal vengeance. Quite often presided over by Voodoo priestesses surrounded with a jumble of Christian accoutrements: holy water, holy candles, holy incense, holy bread, as well as crucifixes. Too simplistic a summary by far, but I am laying down my quill for the night. As they say in all good multi-part cable TV productions 'to be continued......'
