In memory of Elsie – marking the 9th of October 2023

In memory of Elsie
A rememberance, typical of one who is old, jogged by nostalgia of sorts,
concerning the gravel pits where I would fish as a young lad.
Once happy memories, but a diabolic killing sullied any smiling thoughts,
when a young girl was torn from the life she should have had.
Elsie was found murdered on the ninth of October, in nineteen sixty five,
savagely robbed of the dreams, hopes and ambitions of youth.
Stabbed five times in a railway tunnel on her way home never to revive,
the police net cast wide but never found the killer or the truth.
I was fifteen years old on the day that Elsie died, she was fourteen, no age,
her passing hung a hard dark shadow over us not easy to soften.
The family are still seeking justice, and a culprit before they turn the page,
rest in peace Elsie lass, rest assured you will never be forgotten.
