Just a quick note to advise you that following the upgrade of the Oracle Forum to a new software version, the picture insert option is now pretty slick, which means that images slot directly into posts at full size.

Naturally the attachment option relevant to post pictures is still functioning and of course that avenue offers images of a uniform size which can be enlarged to their original dimensions by simply clicking on the image.

However, that said, using the direct picture insertion option does offer forum contributors the use of instantly more striking images to enrich their posts. Therefore, please find a picture insertion procedure guide below which will hopefully be of assistance to you.

Log in to the forum. Click on the bold red ‘The Oracle’ heading below the image. Dependent on your objective, click on either the ‘New Topic’ button gold on green, upper left or select an existing post topic that you wish to post a reply to and click on the topic title.

A ‘New Topic’ will present you with a subject box and a post text box, you can type direct into these boxes (but it may prove easier to cut and paste see comment in Italics below), you will also be offered an edit tool bar (gold on green) containing 11 function buttons immediately above the post text box.

In the case of an existing post topic that you wish to post a reply to, then scroll to the bottom of the post where you will find a post text box underneath the headings ‘Quick Reply’ and ‘Subject’. In this case you will see a grey button beneath the text box with the narrative ‘Full Editor & Preview’ click on this and the same edit tool bar (gold on green) containing 11 function buttons as above will appear. Here again you can type direct into the text box, but it may prove easier to cut and paste see comment in Italics below.

In either case, if you have a lengthier contribution to make then it is probably easier to prepare it in MS Word first then cut and paste into the text box and subject box if applicable to a ‘New Post’.

Next decide where you wish to insert the first picture and place the cursor accordingly. Then click on the third button from the left on the edit tool bar (contains a mountain symbol with sun/moon above) this action will insert the following characters img and /img each set of 3 and 4 characters enclosed in individual square brackets in the post. There will be a flashing vertical line between the two sets of square brackets, example [ ]I[ ].

Normally you will already have researched and selected your picture from the internet (Google images more often than not, having googled a topic click on 'images' on grey shaded Google window above the listings); open that image to full size by clicking on the thumbnail presentation, then AGAIN click thumbnail displayed on the right to check the image dimensions first (image will enlarge to full size and it may be too large at this point NOTE it will be displayed at the size it will eventually appear in your post). Then if you are happy with the picture place the cursor on it, then RIGHT CLICK and you will be presented with a drop down menu. Place the cursor on the fourth (4) option down ‘Copy image address’ highlight and click, then return to [ ]I[ ] in the post place the cursor over the space between the two sets of square brackets on the flashing vertical line, right click and select ‘Paste’ and the image link will appear.

Then in both types of post click on the ‘Submit’ button below the text box. The picture will appear in the post.

As an extension of the initial post, should you wish to extract copies tables from the main 973-eht-namuh-973.com site to strengthen/support the content of your posts then this will require use of the Windows snipping tool (an extremely useful app) with the resulting snipped image generated saved on your hard drive and then inserted in a post as an attachment at standard size. See below:

In response to a question raised by Hope.

No size limit really Hope, other than the size which they are stored on the website from where you obtain them. They are displayed on the Oracle Forum at full size. However you have to open the image on the net to get it at full size rather than right click and apply ‘Copy Image address’ (see my earlier post guide inserting images) on the displayed ‘thumbnail’ images described below.

So type your search criteria into Google and click to search, at the bottom of the upper pale grey shaded area that contains the Google logo at the top of the screen, click on the second heading in from the left ‘Images’. This will display a page of ‘thumbnail’ images that Google deems relevant to your search criteria.

Scroll down through these images until you find one that suits your work-in-progress post then click on it, on the right of the expanded image displayed you will see 5 grey buttons, second button in from the left is titled ‘View image’. Click on this ‘View image’ button and the image will be displayed against a white background, this will give you a replica of the size of the image as it will appear in your post. If you feel it is too small then either click on one of the 8 related images displayed beneath the buttons or go back via the back arrow (top left of the screen) to the original thumbnail image page and look for another image.

Once you are happy with the image you have selected, then place the cursor on the full sized image, right click and highlight ‘Copy Image address’ option and click. Then as per my earlier post guide for inserting pictures, return to your post, where you have already positioned the cursor at the point where you wish to place the picture, already clicked on the insert picture button (mountain with sun/moon) and place the cursor on the flashing perpendicular line between the two sets of square brackets then click and the full sized picture address will be inserted. Then click ‘submit’ and the image will appear to the same scale of the original.

Hope, I’m going to add this, along with your question, to the end of my post entitled ‘Inserting pictures directly into posts’. This should solve your problem.

OK - so I should know how to do this - but after reading the online help for the forum I still couldn't see the instructions on how to properly include pictures, inline into posts.

I think I've seen instructions posted to this forum and I did a search, but didn't find what I was looking for. So, links to those postings or to online instructions could be posted as a reply to this please?

Dear Anitadic, Welcome to the Oracle Forum, if I haven't already done so, thank you for your question and we look forward to further contributions.

The online help is not as real world specific as perhaps it could be. However, hopefully what you will find above in terms of inserting pictures directly into posts is much more so. I have in fact revised the first set of instructions in this post to hopefully make them even more specific and clear in areas where having reread my original I feel there might be potential confusion. I am sorry to report that once again we find ourselves having lost links to ATTACHED images on your forum posts through no fault of our own, as a result of the latest software upgrade. However, it is worth emphasising that all images directly inserted using the instructions above have remained in place, which was the same scenario when this problem occurred during the previous upgrade. We are obviously distressed at this state of affairs, but while we are pressing forward in search of a solution there is currently nothing on the horizon.

I fully understand that there are still a number of situations where our much appreciated forum contributors have no choice but to upload pictures via the attached images function as they only reside on individual hard disks, and if at all possible I would ask you to replace those pictures on their respective posts. Nevertheless, if there is any possibility that these can be replaced by the direct insertion method, then I would ask you to do so please.

Last but not least a huge thank you for everything you've contributed to the forum over the past few years to date you have proved to be an extraordinary community and one which continues to grow.

Just a reminder to say that over time the direct insertion of pictures rather than attachments, wherever possible has proved to be the most secure method of posting images, especially during board software upgrades.
