Is your future already decided.?
FAITH & REASON Andrew Brown examines what recent debate between scientists, philosophers and theologians
on human consciousness reveals about Christian belief in the soul and its immortality.
One of the paradoxes of religious debate in Britain is that it tends to be unbelievers who defend traditional Christian
positions as beliefs which Christians should be compelled to hold; whereas want actual loving Christians believe strikes
most agnostics as virtually atheistic.
A dogmatic belief in the existence of a soul separable from the body seem a necessary part of Christian beliefs to
everyone except practising Christians.
The subtlety of Christian beliefs about the soul and its immortality has been clear to me by a couple of conferences
I have attended recently.
These were not fringe meetings.
One was in Jesus College, Cambridge, and the other in St George' s House, a study centre in Windsor Castle.
Both brought together philospers, scientists and theologians to discuss the study of consciousness.
How is it that the tree and a half pounds of porridge-like Brian, which is all an observer can see in our heads,
can produce a thinking, feeling subject.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TIME & ETERNITY
Re: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TIME & ETERNITY
No I believe your future is not yet decided. Good topic to bring up!
Scientists have discovered that time has to direction or arrow pointing towards somewhere. Nor is it a line with points. Instead, it is a segment. Two arrows going both ways, one forward, one backward. Although like in your other post (new theory of time) there is a new study that suggests the universe started with two realities, one going forward, or what our reality sees as forward, and vise versa on the other side. Time can transcended, but we don't know HOW we can actually do that. But this just tells anyone that there really is no such thing as a future, past, or present. In fact, a theoretical and quantum physicist Carlo Rovelli, suggests that time is an illusion, and that what we perceive it to be is just our way of measuring something that is there, but not really there in the same time.
Another way to prove that the future is not already planned out is by proving the existence of a different dimension. And believe it or not, it's very simple to do so. We are constantly entering a different dimension and we don't even know it. Here is how:
Let's say you had an opportunity to go on a trip with friends for free. You can either decide to go with them or stay behind. Ok, now let's say you chose to stay instead. Now that you've decided to stay, we can now determine that there would have been a completely different outcome if you would have gone. Theoretically but quite realistically, you entered a different dimension by making a decision. Let's also say that your friends all caught a flu while on the trip. If you would have gone, you would have caught the flu as well. But there was a different outcome, since you chose to stay and opened a different dimension. It's almost like a choose your own adventure book, except you are in control, for all that we know that is.
But this even applies to small things too. It doesn't have to be a big change. Every time you make a decision, you are changing reality. Pretty fascinating.
This brings me to the conclusion that I don't believe that our future is planned out, because of the new theory of time, and the theory of the dimensions, it says so. If God did give us free will, than the future is ours to decide. But let me re-word that, there is no future; It is a illusion or human measurement of time.

Then he said, "I lostmyhead" can you see it?
