Ah Leif, yes a name of many meanings, heir, descendant, beloved,
Old Norse Leifr, son of Erik so far beyond the edge of your world.
You sailed from Greenland the brave explorer son of Erik the Red
Year one thousand, your wooden long boat flies with sail unfurled.
The ninth of October through frost laden mist land shape appears,
Vinland emerges a fertile new wilderness to settle Norse families.
A millennium passes, was Lief in Newfoundland to stake frontiers
Or refurbish ships for St Lawrence Bay expanding Viking territories?
There is evidence of Norse colonies in both that has lasted forever,
So for sure it was Leifr Eriksson who first found his way to America.
