How are you ANONYMOUS1999, may you ride astride a good year?
While his appearance does not strike you as that of an incurable romantic, Honoré de Balzac was a nineteenth-century French novelist and playwright with a love drenched soul. His magnum opus was a series of teetering on 100 novels and plays, collectively entitled La Comédie humaine, presenting a pageant of French life in the years following the fall of Napoléon Bonaparte in 1815.
A keen observer of detail who declined to filter his representation of society, Balzac is regarded as one of the true founders of realism in European literature. He is well known and much admired for his multi-faceted primary characters; although even his lesser characters are complex, of ambiguous moral compass and totally human. He also takes inanimate objects and imbues them with character as well; the city of Paris, a backdrop for much of his writing, takes on many human qualities.
While the opening quote is perhaps most relevant to this dangling conversation, a couple of Balzac's other gems spring to mind:-
'Solitude is fine but you need someone to tell that solitude is fine,' and 'The more one judges, the less one loves.'
