Somebody enquired about the origins of the pseudonym Redbeck and why the photographs that I sometimes post below it are of streams coloured with red iron oxide leakage.



Well a beck is a stream in Northern English, derived from Old Norse word bekkr for a stream typically with a stony bed. Red would have been rauor in Old Norse, but was not a word absorbed into Middle English.
