Where is the way forward, oh autumnal ninth day of October?
A sunlit path to keep humanity shielded against pressing dark,
That bridge to a better life that we all might safely cross over,
Order crumbling no sanctuary in homes, streets, cellar or park.
Yet who guarantees safe passage in this wealth-lustful world?
Not ego-bound leaders without social conscience that bleed us,
Deny avaricious agendas, keep spirits uncowed and uncurled,
Meek but blessed your earth awaits, nudge aside the heartless.
Join intellect and purpose to benefit every single sentient being.
Unite minds in numbers to find that enlightened forward road,
Succour the needy to reassure them they are no longer fleeing,
Protect the vulnerable and weak, ensure compassion’s showed.
