Might I make an addition to my earlier response, I have since deduced that a 'House of Mage' is a place of Christian magic and therefore home to magicians, thus it is logical that thy first speaker is a maker of Christian magic with stones. Also does thy opening response imply the alternative definition of use of the word tincture, as in 'a slight trace of something', therefore my original observations response be vaguely correct?
Stones well crystals in the Bible, Revelation 21:11, & 18-20 NIV. 'It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. Local folklore particularly in Ireland, our ancestral roots cometh to the fore, often attaches religious or magical significance to what are known as bullaun stones. For instance, the belief that the rainwater collecting in a stone's hollow has healing properties. A bullaun (Irish: bullan) is the term used for a depression in a stone which is often water filled, although naturally rounded rocks or pebbles may also sit in the bullaun.The size of these bullaun is extremely diverse, while the hemispherical cups hollowed out of a rock may come as singles or multiples within the same piece of rock the surface of which is often smooth with past use.
Ritual use of bullaun stones continued well into the Christian period and many examples are found in excellent current condition associated with early churches, such as the 'Deer' Stone at Glendalough, County Wicklow in Ireland and St Brigit's Stone, in County Cavan which still retains its 'cure' or 'curse' stones. Perhaps the pagan christian amalgamation at work for good.
